Lash Extensions: The Basics

Interested in long, glamorous lash extensions, but need a little more information before booking an appointment? Read on. If you still have questions after reading our FAQs, just contact us here. We’ll be in touch with answers as soon as possible.

  • What are the extensions made of?
We offer two kinds of extensions. Both come in a variety of diameters, lengths and curl shapes, so you can get the custom look thats perfect for you depending on the condition of your existing lashes. Faux mink extensions are out most popular material. They have a glossy finish and hold their curl beautifully. This type of extension is best for those who want a bold, dramatic effect. Silk extensions are slighty lighter in weight than faux mink, and more flexible. If you're looking for a more natural look, or you have weaker natural lashes, silk extensions might be the best choice for you. We'll explain the pros and cons of each during your consultation and evaluation. Each client is unique, and with us, there's no one-size-fits-all.
  • How are they applied?
The lashes are applied with surgical precision (really!) to your own lashes using a special medical-grade, formaldehyde-free adhesive. Because the adhesive is directly applied only to the lash itself, it never touches your skin. Each lash is carefully isolated during the procedure. Our lash artists are experts at making sure the extension lays flat and flush to your own lash, for the most natural look and confortable feel.
  • How long do they last?
Since we all lose an average of 1-3 lashes daily, the extensions will last as long as your natural lash cycle. They fall off as you shed your own lashes. There's no single answer to this question, because we're all a little different. This is why we recommend coming in for touch-ups every 2-4 weeks.
  • What is the difference between classic and volume lashes?
Volume: 2-8 light weight fans or flared lashes that are attached to each natural lash. Classic: A single extension is applied to each natural lash. Hybrid: The best of both worlds! Classic and volume are mixed together. None of the methods are right or wrong, better or worse. Our estheticians take the time to listen and answer any questions you have, so we can choose the technique that will work best for your lashes and your personal style.
  • Will the extensions damage my natural lashes?
The short answer is no. This is a common myth about lash extensions. Our process won’t make your lashes fall out faster or damage them in any way. The longer answer is still no, but this depends on choosing a well-trained lash artist with the experience to use the correct extension for your lash, along with other required techniques. Unfortunately, there are “cheap” lash salons with inexperienced Lash Artists. They might not have the training and industry background to match your lashes with correct lash extension application. A common result in these situations is unfortunately lash damage or premature fallout. This usually happens when an extension is too heavy for the chosen natural lash or "clumps" occurs from improper isolation. Our artists are true experts, and will apply the perfect extension for your natural lash.
  • How often will I need "touch ups"?"
You have a few options: After 2-3 weeks, come in for a touch-up to keep your lashes looking full and gorgeous. We recommend every 2-3 weeks as natural lashes normally shed everyday. You must have at least 50% of your extensions in place for a touch-up. Wait up to 5 weeks, and then come back for a fresh set. Because most of your extensions will have shed by this time, you'll be ready for a completely new set. Just want to look glam for a special occasion? Get a one-time application. Stop by whenever you're ready to have them removed, or just allow them to shed naturally. Lash care is important to maintain at home daily. Noticeable buildup happens and hardens overtime. This makes it difficult to clean and cuts into the appointment time. Unfortunately, we are not able extend the treatment as it may delay the next appointment.
  • I’ve heard some people have allergic reactions. Will it happen to me?
Reactions are rare, but if you’re concerned about it, we will start with a partial set that takes 30 minutes. We will then monitor it for a 48 hours. If no reaction occurs, we can proceed with a full-set. This does not gurantee that a reaction will not happen in the future. Sure, we want you to look fabulous, but your health and safety will always be our top priority.
  • How should I prepare for my first appointment?
Arrive with squeaky-clean lashes and eyes, and no eye makeup. Starting with clean lashes means your extensions will last longer. Arrive on time. Unfortunately, we can’t add any extra time for late arrivals, because this would mean a delay for our next scheduled client. Lie back and relax! We’ll handle the rest.
  • What’s the best way to care for my new set of lashes?
Gently pat your lashes dry with a lint-free towel whenever they get wet. Use a clean mascara brush throughout your lashes everyday. Avoid using mascara and eyeliner, because it will dissolve the adhesive and make your extensions fall out sooner. You may have to also come in sooner for your touch-up. Use our gentle lash cleanser every day to remove natural oils, and makeup. This will extend the life of your lashes and prevent buildup on the lash line. Try not to pick at your lashes or rub your eyes. Don’t rub your eyes directly with a towel, tissue, blanket, or anything else. Instead, air-dry or pat (very) gently.
  • Do you guarantee your work?
Yes, we’re glad you asked! We stand behind our work with a 5-day policy. If you’re not happy with our service, just come back within 5 days, and we’ll gladly make adjustments.
  • Is there anyone who SHOULDN’T get lash extensions?
Most people LOVE their lash extensions and have no problems at all. However, if you fall into one of the following categories, extensions aren’t recommended for you. If you rub, pull, or pick compulsively at your eyes, and don’t think you’ll be able to stop. If you have a medical condition that affects the skin of your eyelids. If you’re dead-set on an extremely thick, heavy lash look, but your natural lashes are thin and short. You’ll love your new look—and the time you will save in your morning routine!

  • What’s the best way to care for my new set of lashes?
For the first 24 hours: keep your lashes dry. After 24 hours: Gently pat your lashes dry whenever they get wet. Use a clean, dry mascara “spooley” to brush your lashes after showering or swimming. Avoid using mascara, because it can dissolve the adhesive and make your extensions fall out sooner. The truth is, you won’t need it, but if you REALLY want mascara, we do carry a type made especially for extensions. Use our gentle lash cleanser every day to remove natural oils and buildup. This won’t weaken the lash adhesive, and will extend the life of your new lashes. Try not to pick at your lashes or rub your eyes. Don’t rub your eyes directly with a towel, tissue, blanket, or anything else. Instead, air-dry or pat (very) gently.
